چکیده

The objective of the project is to examine the potential use of wool as an industrial and/or laboratory adsorbent. This will be carried out by examining the metal sorption and desorption behaviour of a series of wool powders using radiotracer probes. Wool powders will be prepared using various milling techniques, and their metal-binding properties investigated using radiotracers such as Co, Cu and Cd, as well as reactor produced Au, Ag, Hg and Cr. Separation of gold and copper is important for the gold refining industry. Work with mercury will have important environmental implications because of mercury contamination/toxicity in our waterways. Absorption of metal ions will be monitored over a range of concentrations (10 to 10M) and pH values (from 3 to 9) at ambient temperature. Particular attention will be paid to the reversibility of the reactions and ability to scale up processes.

The interaction of hGH with some metal ions ( ) at 27°C in NaC1 solution, 50 mM was studied using Isothermal titration calorimetry. There is a set of three identical and non-interacting binding sites for binding of all these metal ions, expect . The intrinsic association equilibrium constants () are not very different for  and , and also their molar enthalpies of binding (KJ/mol for  and  KJ/mo...

A Microcalorimetry Study of the Binding of Nickel Ion by Human Growth Hormone

A binding study of nickel ions by a new recombinant human Growth Hormone (hGH), produced as an injected drug, has been done at 27˚C in NaCl solution (50 mM) using an isothermal titration calorimetry. There is a set of three identical and non-interacting binding sites for nickel ions. The intrinsic dissociation equilibrium constant and the molar enthalpy of binding are 40 μM and -16...

Evaluation of 99m Tc-MccJ25 peptide analog in mice bearing B16F10 melanoma tumor as a diagnostic radiotracer

Objective(s): Despite recent advances in treatment modalities, cancer remains a major source of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. Currently, the development of sensitive and specific molecular imaging probes for early diagnosis of cancer is still a problematic challenge. Previous studies have been shown that some of the antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exhibit...

Application of FITC for detecting the binding of antiangiogenic peptide to HUVECs

Angiogenesis is the generation of new blood vessels from the existing vasculature. The angiogenic programme requires the degradation of the basement membrane, endothelial cell migration and invasion of the extracellular matrix, with endothelial cell proliferation and capillary lumen formation before maturation and stabilization of the new vasculature. Angiogenesis is dependent on a delicate equ...
